The Clayton Township Police Department is located in rural Genesee County, six miles West of Flint, is 34.5 square miles and serves a population of 7800 residents.  It encompasses main thoroughfares including I-69, M-21, M-13 and the business district is the City of Swartz Creek . The Police Department is comprised of six full-time and six part-time police officer positions, supplemented by a clerical position and six reserves.  Dispatch and lock-up facilities are provided by the County of Genesee.

The Charter Township of Clayton Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on the proposed millage levies of 1.04 mills for General Operating, .9746 mills for Police protection, .8000 mills for Fire protection for the taxing year 2014. A PUBLIC HEARING will be held on Sept. 11, 2014 at 6:00pm in the Township Hall located at 2011 S. Morrish Road., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. The Clayton Township Board will receive public comments on the proposed millage levies at this public hearing. If adopted, the total proposed millage levies would increase operating revenues from ad valorem property taxes .27% over the preceding year operating revenues. If the proposed millage rates with the Public Hearing are not approved, the operating revenues will increase by .11% over the preceding year's operating revenue. The taxing unit publishing this notice, and identified below, has complete authority to establish the number of mills to be levied within its authorized millage rate. Citizens attending this hearing will have the right to provide oral comments and ask questions concerning the millages to be levied. The Charter Township of Clayton Planning Commission will hold a Special Conditional Use Public Hearing on September 16, 2014 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Township Hall, 2011 S. Morrish Rd, Swartz Creek, Michigan 48473. The purpose of the public hearing will be to receive comments regarding the request of AT&T to install a 150' monopole tower on property, owned by Lee and Sarah St. John, located on Seymour Rd, 0.3 miles north of Beecher Rd on active farm land. This is pending the approval of a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals on September 8, 2014 to erect a tower greater than 2,000 ft from I 69. Tax ID 25-04-03-300-003. Supporting documents may be reviewed at the Charter Township of Clayton Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by calling (810) 635-4433. Comments regarding the request may be made at the time of the hearing or submitted in writing to the Planning Commission prior to the date of the meeting.
